"The Real Ultimate Adventure" - Hunt for the Monsters

I had a chat today with a fellow researcher about a certain feature of the original props. We rapidly came to the conclusion that it should be very easy to tell an original based on a single piece of casing on the lowed skirt. The reason we'd never considered this possibility before was that after the fiasco [more...]

So, the time has come for The Return. All geared up with measuring equipment, expert help, professional camera and kitchen sink, we set off again to see the alleged original prop. Once again the owner was extremel [more...]

I reckon that there is software out there which could work for out needs. There are bits of 3D software which I've used in the past to create my own face. I think it was called 3D-Me, and it required two pictures from different angles. Surely if we could input the corner points of the skirts it would easily allow the computer to build a 3D model which we could then compare. It would save relying on the data we have, which isn't really right.

The more I look at TV footage and stills, and then look back of the Woking Prop, the more I become convinced that the only way we can make any positive progress is using 3D modelling software. It's quite an appropriate realistion to have because it was through the 3D software MAX that I got into this whole situation. I'll have a think about how it could work.

Getting up at Stupid O'Clock on a Sunday morning is not my idea of fun. Neverthless it's all in a good cause. To be fair, it wasn't a totally unreasonable time of the morning, merely before 10am, which is bad enough on a 'school day' but all the worse for being a weekend. I've never been a morning person, since I was about 10 years old and it just got worth through til 6th Form. My lethargy was at its worst when I couldn't muster the energy to get up before 8.30am when I had to be at school at 8.45. Nevertheless, I digress. We arranged to meet with our contact at 10am and I was very surprised how close he lived. He was a nice bloke and when we got there he wheeled it out of his garage. I hope he didn't mind too much when

I suppose the whole thing really started here. I mean beyond the actual bizarre childhood obsession with things that don't exist (isn't that normal?), it started with an email which started like this:

"Don’t suppose you remember me, but I’m an old (in fact, very old!) customer of your Dad’s. We had some conversations a while ago about CAD and 3Dstudio MAX. I recall that you were a wiz with 3DS and I was wondering if you could possibly do me a wee favour."

What a modest chap. Yes, of course I remembered him. I had a look at the 3Dstudio MAX work he wanted which was quick and easy, and I fired it back to him. I told him the kind of artwork that I was into at the time and it prompted him in his reply to mention that the brother of a good friend of his had one of the original TV props! Well, did he really [more...]
