Jurassic
Park
How do you judge your favourite film? If it's purely
in terms of re-watchability, visual enjoyment and fun, then nothing beats Jurassic
Park for me. It's not the cleverest of films (although it does have some important
things to say about how far man should go in repairing the damage he has done
to the planet) and its main aim is to thrill and entertain, rather than provoke
deep philosphical conversations, and the dialogue isn't Shakespeare and there
are joyful continuity errors, but in terms of adventure and spectable I think
there aren't many films which beat it.
And, to be fair, when you watch
Jurassic Park III which has more action and more dinosaurs, and you realise
that the third film isn't anything like as good as the first, you soon realise
that the original does have far more going for it than pure visual specticle.
Steven Speilberg isn't one of the most influential men in Hollywood for nothing.
His ability to hook the audience and throw them into the world of jeapardy that
the characters are going through is second-to-none. There are many imitators but
when I think back to how I felt the first time I saw the jeep attack in Jurassic
Park, only another Speilberg film such as Jaws or even Dual
can come close.
